Parkinson says the chances were there at Ewood Park, but Wrexham did not finish them and Blackburn's defenders stood firm.

The short version

Wrexham lost 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, 24 October, with Andri Gudjohnsen scoring in each half. Phil Parkinson said Wrexham had 23 shots but only one on target, and the defeat leaves them 17th of 24 in the EFL Championship. The score is confirmed; Parkinson spoke after the game.

Twenty-three shots, one on target. That was the return Wrexham took from Ewood Park on Saturday, where Andri Gudjohnsen scored in each half for a 2-0 Blackburn win. Phil Parkinson felt his side had enough openings to take something from the game, but said the quality in the final moments was missing.

The first goal came just before half-time, which Parkinson called a setback. He still thought the game was there at the break, though conditions were hard for both sides in the first half, and Wrexham had the elements against them early on. He gave Blackburn credit for their defending, saying they made nine or ten blocks and dealt well with crosses and set plays.

Wrexham had targeted spots where Tony Mowbray's side had conceded in recent weeks, and Parkinson pointed to scrambles, blocked shots and a Kieffer Moore header from a corner. 'We couldn't produce the quality we needed,' he said after the game. The manager's view is that the chances were there, and the finish was not.

Blackburn took theirs. Gudjohnsen now has eight league goals this season, and Parkinson said the set-play delivery lost some accuracy once the changes were made as the game went on. He was clear that the effort was not the problem, saying the players gave everything.

Wrexham sit 17th of 24 in the Championship with 14 points from 12 games and a goal difference of minus three. The next test is at Sheffield United on Friday 30 October, with kick-off at 8pm at Bramall Lane.
